It’s no surprise that Janice’s cashmere jumpers are so popular. You’ll find them in our collection every year. Time and again, it’s all about the super-soft and durable material. For the first time this season, we have matching cashmere scarves, and if you really can’t get enough of this fantastic material, you can now dress in cashmere from head to toe.
The word ‘cashmere’ derives from ‘Kashmir’. It is a type of wool sourced from the cashmere goat, which is native to India, Pakistan and China. Cashmere goats come in a variety of colours. These natural colours are truly beautiful. Our jumpers and other cashmere items therefore all have a natural colour. Because the fibres aren’t dyed, the fabric also remains super-soft.
Cashmere wool is obtained through a complex, time-consuming process and is also much finer than, for example, sheep’s wool. Cashmere is therefore truly regarded as an exclusive material. Moreover, it is the unique structure of the undercoat that gives it its distinctive sheen and wonderful softness.
Cashmere wool is available in various quality grades, but is always soft and luxurious. At Janice, we use only recycled cashmere fibres of the very highest quality. This is determined by the fineness and length of the fibres, and the purity of the wool. Furthermore, we use two-ply yarn. This offers a higher quality than single-ply yarn, as it is more dimensionally stable and more elastic. Finally, the material is double-washed in silicone for that ultimate luxurious and soft feel.
Cashmere is often blended with sheep’s wool or synthetic fibres. This is often done to reduce the price, but sometimes also to make an item more sustainable. At Janice, we use only pure cashmere for our collection. Naturally, we also place great value on sustainability. That is why we work with recycled cashmere. A cashmere jumper from Janice is therefore truly an investment piece. A garment you’ll enjoy for many years to come. We see the simple elegance that characterises cashmere as the perfect foundation for stylish and comfortable pieces for your wardrobe.
New to our collection: matching cashmere scarves in the colours of our jumpers. Just as soft and extra warm. This season, the scarves are available in two lovely colours: blue and dark red.
You don’t need to wash cashmere garments every time you wear them. Airing them out in the fresh air or simply in the bathroom is enough to get rid of any odours.
Before washing, remove any pilling and then turn your garment inside out. Cashmere jumpers and trousers really do need to be washed with care. Preferably by hand in lukewarm water, or alternatively in the washing machine in a laundry bag on a hand-wash or wool cycle.
Do not hang your wet cashmere item up to dry; instead, lay it flat to dry (for example, on a towel) to prevent it from stretching. You may iron it, but do so carefully, for example using steam or a damp cloth over the garment. Never put your cashmere jumper in the tumble dryer!
Do cashmere jumpers pill?
Cashmere is characterised by its exceptionally fine and soft fibres, but it is also lightweight and strong. Garments made from pure cashmere provide excellent insulation and are naturally breathable, making cashmere perfect for wearing directly against the skin. Pilling is a natural characteristic caused by wearing cashmere, not by washing it. However, pilling of these fibres is not a sign of poor quality – invest in a good de-pilling tool or comb to gently remove unwanted fluff and fuzz.
Storing and caring for cashmere jumpers
You can wear cashmere all year round: on cold winter days and cool summer days. This is because cashmere regulates your body temperature. If you do want to store your cashmere jumper, do not seal it in plastic; instead, use cotton storage bags that can be sealed. Plastic covers are the ideal environment for moths – perfume, body oils and deodorant are food for insects, and moths cannot eat through cotton. You should also use cashmere spray between washes, whilst wearing the garment and before storing it to keep moths and insects at bay.
